How To Fully Speed Up Your Windows Operating System Empty How To Fully Speed Up Your Windows Operating System

Post by frogman Thu Jul 31, 2014 11:12 am

People are always asking how to speed up their computer, its so slow, it won't load, it takes too
long, things hang; etc. I have good news! The solution is very simple. My prescribed process will have you restart your computer a couple times since
we are applying new settings to the OS. Guide is meant for Windows 7, Window 8 & 8.1, Servers & ETC. Windows XP = discontinued, certain methods still apply themselves in the same sense to operating systems unmentioned.

I composed this guide to help people with measures from the basic to registry based methods. I can guarantee you if you
follow this guide your computer will run 50% faster than it currently is.

1. CPU Parking, Unpark that CPU.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" />

Starting guns with a Registry "Hack". CPUs are core processing units to allow applications to process etc., & Windows ensures that all do not run simultaneously to save energy. Willing to use more energy, desktop & laptops? Unpark those parked CPUs to give your computer a serious speed boost. I've scripted tweaks for you. Restart your computer for them to work. Right click the file, & click Merge. Must be opened with C:\Windows\regedit.exe, browse for other program.Help? PM me.

Unpark CPU, Speed Boost, Park CPU, Power Saving

2. Lighten the System Tray Load

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" />

Keep things short, & sweet. Right Click Taskbar (image above) then Properties > Notification Area-Customize >
Configure Your Favored Icons. This in fact lessens the load on explorer.exe.

3. Going Classic Themed

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" />

Windows 8? Skip. It may look unappealing, but you will notice dramatic performance increase. Access Start Menu > Control Panel {View by: Category} > Appearance & Personalization-Change the theme > Scroll Downwards > Select Windows Classic .

4. Excuse me, Solid Wallpapers Only

No wallpaper is the best wallpaper, less for explorer to h&le. Select any color that fits you.
Access Start Menu > Control Panel {View by: Category} > Appearance & Personalization-Change desktop background > Picture
Location-Scroll to Solid Colors > Select the "YourPrefferedColorHere" Square.

5. Turn Windows Features On & Off

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" />

A bit tricky, nothing you cannot h&le. These are personalized settings as to what you are comfortable with & use most of the time.
Access Start Menu > Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features-Turn Windows Features On & Off. Disable certain obvious ones such as Games, Media Features (if you use alternative media players), Windows Search is a memory hog, & all others such as Telnet & certain features you won't use.

Click OK after checking your selections off, & wait till you are prompted to reboot your computer. Close all documents/software & save, then Restart Now & revisit this guide.

6. Adjusting Visualizations for Best Performance

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" />

Major performance booster. Simply the text, the fading in & out, the thumbnails, all add up to be processed. Take them
away, & you are lightning fast. Access Windows Key + R > type SystemProptertiesAdvanced.exe > Performance-Settings > Adjust fo

best performance.

7. Turn Off All Sounds

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" />

Unneeded sounds can be bothersome when you get the error sound, so why not stop the whole nuisance & gain performance?
Access Start Menu > Control Panel > Appearance & Personalization-Change sound effects > Sound scheme: No sounds > Apply & OK.

8. Disable all unused services for the computer's role

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" />

Another big one. Disabling these services on your computer help optimize your computer's speed immensely. Access Windows
Key + R > type services.msc > Search for each of these services, they are safe to disable. Right Click the found service > Properties > Startup
Type-Disabled. Read between parentheses. Reboot manually after completion then return to this thread.

Code:

IP Helper
Offline Files
Network Access Protection Agent
Parental Controls
Smart Card Removal Policy
Windows Media Center Receiver Service
Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service
Fax

Remote Registry Service
Adobe Flash Player Service
Adobe Switchboard Service
Remote Desktop Services
Desktop Windows Manager Session Manager
Windows Defender (If anti-virus installed)
Windows Firewall (If Firewall installed)
Windows Security Center
Tablet PC Input Service (Unless Tablet)
Windows Firewall (Firewall installed)
Windows Defender (Antispyware + Antivirus installed)
HomeGroup Provider (No HomeGroup Sharing)
Homegroup Listener (No HomeGroup Sharing)

Windows Media Player Network Sharing Services (No HomeGroup Sharing)
Themes (On a Netbook)
Windows Image Acquisitions (If no Camera/Scanner)
Print Spooler (If no Printer )
Task Scheduler (Unless scheduled tasks are important)
Diagnostic Policy Service (Advanced)
Error Reporting Service (Advanced)

9. Remove Start Up items According to the Computer's role

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" />

10. Remove junk-ware & unused software

Simple yet effective. Removing programs frees memory used in the RAM & the hard disk. Access Control Panel >
Programs > Uninstall programs & software you do not use .

11. Execute Virus Scans to Ensure Security & Speed

Use virus scanners such as:

● MalwareBytes Anti-Malware
● ESET Online Scanner
● AdwCleaner
● Hitman Pro 3.x
● Trend Micro Housecall
● Junkware Removal Tool
● SUPERAntiSpyware

Simply install these softwares/applications, update, & run (full) scans. Remove all objects if any found, restart if prompted.
One must have an anti-virus & anti-spyware on their computer if they feel the
need to do so to maintain adequate maintenance of a computer.

12. Check Automatically Scheduled Tasks

Open CCleaner, then Access Tools > Scheduled Tasks Tab > Delete all scheduled events you did not schedule, or are not important.
We do not want any superfluous tasks (you don't need) occupying processor speed & RAM, Adobe Updates are completely irrelevant.
Somehow, somewhere, you will be prompted to update from Adobe elsewhere.

13. Performing System Updates

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" />

Windows Updates are important to keep the system running. Navigate to Start Menu > Control Panel > System & Security > Windows
Update > Change settings > Configure for automatic update accordingly.

14. Defragment Your Hard Drive

Its important to not have file fragments left on the hard drive. Access Start Menu > Control Panel > System & Security > Administrative
Tools-Defragment your hard drive. Select the disks & defragment them by clicking the button. Never defrag SSDs.

15. Power Settings High/Max Performance

Usually enabled on default. Access Start Menu > Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Power Options > Change your plan's settings.
It tells your processor how fast to go according to Windows.

16. Use Windows ReadyBoost

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" />

ReadyBoost is a disk caching software component of W. Vista & later Microsoft operating systems. It allows any compatible mass storage device (USB, external hard drives) to be used as a temporary hard-drive memory cache for the purpose of increasing access speed to the hard drive. You can access it by Right clicking the removable media device > Properties > ReadyBoost Tab > Select Use This Device (radiobutton) > slide the slide tool to select your space to reserve for the system's speed.

You should notice results instantly, and the device must be plugged in for this to operate correctly after using the above instructions.

17. Increase the size of the Page File, reallocating memory for background services

This is important for software such as services that run in the background to run more smoothly. Access through Windows Key + R >
SystemPropertiesAdvanced.exe > Performance-Settings > Advanced Tab > Change paging file to about half your installed RAM. Reallocate
your memory for background services next .

18. Updating Windows Drivers

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" />

This is another simple one. Access Start Menu > Control Panel >Hardware & Sound > Device Manager > Right Click each device &
select Update Driver Software & see if any updates are available. If skeptical, you may Google for these updates as well from vendors
only.

19. Ensure All Software is Up-To-Date

All software must be up to date, usually one is able to check by going to the Help tab in a software's menu bar. Check for the updates,
& install them if available. It is always good to stay up to date on the latest patches, etc.

20. Download My Registry Tweaks

Code:

; Optimizes Windows NT, enjoy!

This is speed of light territory you are entering. I have compiled a gr& list of registry "hacks" that modify certain elements in the
registry to speed up your computer dramatically, this file is .REG script.
Download them by clicking here. Restart manually afterwards; Questions about the script? Reply below.

21. Introducing CCleaner & Disk Clean Manager

Use CCleaner for its true purpose. Open CCleaner, & check all but one item off on the lists in the left h&
column, Wipe Free Space. Click Run Cleaner. Afterwards, click Registry on the left h& column, then select all the options to the right >
Scan for issues > then Fix selected issues > Fix all issues accordingly. This does
not speed up your computer, but it wipes digital traces. Use Disk Clean Manager (search Start Menu) to delete Windows
installation files CCleaner couldn't delete.

22. Use Windows System File Checker & DISM (Windows 8 exclusive)

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" />

You should be noticing some speed on your computer by now. We must check that all of Windows' files are intact, so we open an elevated
command prompt window (CMD.exe straight from run menu is elevated, UAC disabled) & type sfc /scannow. This will scan your computer for file violations according to Windows.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" />

For DISM (Deployment Image Servicing & Management), we can fix these Windows components detected. Open elevated command prompt window & type:
Code:
dism /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Type Enter. Errors will be repaired flawlessly.

23. Use Check Disk to Ensure Full File Integrity

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" />

Ensuring all your computer's files are in best shape, we must perform a chkdsk /f/r within an elevated comm& prompt window once
again as demonstrated above. Enter the comm& chkdsk /r (f parameter fixes detected errors on disk & locates bad sectors
& recovers them), you will reschedule a chkdsk on reboot by selecting the (y) when prompted, hit enter. CHKDSK may take an hour or two
depending on the amount of the hard drive taken up.

24. The Best Registry Cleaner Ever

Download the tool NTREGOPT, install the setup, & Launch it from
post setup. Click OK, if you receive an error optimizing a certain hive, click Yes & proceed. Reboot afterwards. I recommend this
because I have used many registry cleaners that have failed my system including TuneUp Utilities, Auslogics, & a whole lot of Bootlegged
Registry Cleaners that are trash. I have never faced any problems, & only gained a satisfaction beyond any other in performance.

25. Using WinDirStat to Manage Space

Software known as WinDirStat, determines the amount of space occupied on a hard drive. It reads your hard drive & creates a diagram filled with blocks
of your data. Install through setup & launch post setup, & come back to this thread. The larger the data, the more blocks & the bigge

the blocks become. These boxes are categorized accordingly to what folder that they are in. You can Right Click on a Box > Click Explore

Here > delete useless files on your hard drive.

26. Optimize Boot Speed

Remove the Windows 7/8 boot logo & it shall remain black, using less resources to project a picture & you
will notice faster computer power on speed. Windows Key + R > msconfig.exe > Enter key > No GUI boot .
